SCOTT CITY -- Allen Wayne Cook, 76, of Scott City died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Feb. 22, 1946, in Fornfelt, Missouri, to Clarence Melvin and Clara Marie Wylder Cook, Sr. He married Debby Schlenker on Oct. 13, 1979.
He was a riverboat captain and pilot. He was a member of Broadway Methodist Church in Scott City and Cape Masonic Lodge. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving two tours in Vietnam. He was a member of 82nd MP Co., 82 Airborne Division, 101st MP Co. and 101st Airborne Division. He was awarded the Soldiers Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal with one Bronze Oakleaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal (second award), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon w/device, Sharpshooter Badge and Parachutist Badge.
He is survived by his wife, Debby of Scott City; two sons, Robert Cook of Alton, Illinois, and Dustin (Ashley) Cook of Jackson; daughter, Abbie (Tommy) Diamantopoulos of Chicago; three brothers, M.G. (Sandi) Cook of Scott City, Freddie (Barb) Cook of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Eddie (Nancy) Cook of Yuma, Arizona; four grandchildren, Rylann, Tycen, Demi Jo and Adriana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Norman, Bill and Tommy; and two sisters, Laura Frances Stone and Carolyn Brown.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery in Scott City with full military honors.
