Alice Marlin Fisher, 80, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, in Scottsdale, Ariz.
She was born Jan. 17, 1928, in Naylor, Mo., daughter of John Marshall and Nora Mohan Marlin.
She and Paul Gordon Fisher were married July 29, 1951. He preceded her in death March 3, 2003.
Mrs. Fisher was a prominent resident of Sikeston, Mo., most of her life, and was engaged in farming with her husband. She was also a volunteer with Missouri Cotton Boll Girl Scouts many years.
She was a charter member of Bootheel Quilters Guild, which she initially helped organize in 1989. She was also a member of American Quilters Society and National Quilters Society. Her passion and love for quilts, fabric and quilt patterns was an important role in her life. She attended quilt shows often, and collected quilt patterns from early 1920s forward to complete a rare set of more than 1,000 patterns published by K.C. Star and other newspapers.
She was also a professional seamstress and tailor, making clothing for herself and children. She was a lady who enjoyed sharing her knowledge and patterns with others. She visited various extension clubs to discuss her passion for collecting quilts and patterns.
Survivors include two sons, Mark Marlin Fisher of Columbia, Ill., Paul Fisher of Jackson; two daughters, Ellen Fisher Baker of Scottsdale, Alice Caroline Fisher of Columbia, Mo.; a sister, Edith Leeper of Columbia, Mo.; a brother, Charles Lowell Marlin of Knox, Pa.; and two grandchildren: David Baker of Long Island, N.Y., and Anna Margaret Hoge of Murfreesboro, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha Ann Hoge; three siblings, Dorothy Marlin Johnson, Lewis Marlin and John Marshal Marlin Jr.
Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ponder Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
