Alfred G. "Pop" Walter, 90, of Jackson died Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at his home. He was born Feb. 22, 1927, the son of Otto and Anna Sander Walter. Alfred G. "Pop" Walter, 90, of Jackson died Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at his home.

He was born Feb. 22, 1927, the son of Otto and Anna Sander Walter. He and Arlene Krueger were married Dec. 20, 1959. She died April 19, 1985.

Alfred was a member of Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. He was baptized and confirmed at Eisleben Lutheran Church in Illmo.

He was a farmer and construction worker and was a school-bus driver many years for the Jackson School District.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, during the Korean War.

Loving survivors include five children, Martha Jane Cotner of Jackson, Jimmy (Pam) Walter of Millersville, John (Val) Walter of Jackson, Margaret (Don) Howard of Jackson and Mike (Lisa) Walter of Jackson; 12 grandchildren, Mark Cotner and Michele Cotner, Nichole Glueck, Jacob Walter, Joe Walter, Joshua Walter, Jessica Stearns, Shane Walter, Curtis Walter, Zach Walter, Matt Howard and Alissa Howard; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Henry Walter of Scott City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Arlene Walter; five brothers, Lenos, Gene, Butch, Pete and Martin Walter; and four sisters, Marie Roth, Aletha Varnon, Dorothy Hamm and Kathleen Green.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at Hanover Lutheran Church.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the church, with the Rev. Tony Kobak officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hanover Lutheran Church.
