JONESBORO, Ill. -- Alfred H. "Chick" Bishop, 79, of Jonesboro died Monday, Nov. 4, 1996, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 27, 1917, in Dongola, son of Hess E. and Jennie Manning Bishop. He and Leota Karraker were married May 2, 1937, in Alto Pass.

Bishop began work at First National Bank of Jonesboro in 1946. In 1957 he was promoted to cashier, executive vice president and trust officer, and was appointed to the board of directors. He retired in 1982.

He was a member and elder of the Church of Christ in Anna, was serving on the First National Bank's board and the Jonesboro Bancompany Inc. He was a former member of Jonesboro School Board, Anna-Jonesboro Community High School Board, and Lions Club.

Bishop served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Vivian Waldrep of Dublin, Ga.; a brother, Paul Bishop of Pounding Mill, Va.; a sister, Dorothy Purkaple of Hawthorne, Calif.; and a granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

Friends may call at Hileman and Parr Funeral Home in Jonesboro from 4-7 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Christ in Anna, with John Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Christian Chapel Cemetery.
