PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Alexander R. "Turtle" Nuyt, 75, of Perryville died Friday, July 26, 2002, at his home.
He was born July 20, 1927, at Belgique, Mo., son of Peter B. and Philomena DePauw Stelzriede Nuyt. He first married Evelyn Lanita "Neets" Renner. He later married Bonnie Ohounihan Feb. 2, 1981.
Nuyt had been a bulldozer operator for Stelzriede and Howard Davis, was assistant manager of American Legion, owner and operator of City Tavern from 1971 to 1986, and was manager/bartender at Perryville Elks Lodge.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, life member of VFW, AmVets, charter member of Eagles and Elks, member of American Legion and one of the founders of Perryville Men's Softball League.
Nuyt served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Michael, Terry "Boog" and Gregory Nuyt, all of Perryville; a stepson, Ricky White of Perryville; a stepdaughter, Shelly Esparza of Willis, Texas; a brother, Glennon Nuyt of Russellville, Ky.; two sisters, Patricia Harvey of St. Louis, Donna Johnson of O'Fallon, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a grandson.
Friends may call at Young and Sons Funeral Home from 2:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday, and Monday after 6:30 a.m. The VFW wake will be at 6 p.m. Sunday, with the AmVets wake at 6:15 and Elks wake at 6:30.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kevin Fausz officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
