Alene Emma Penrose, 97, of Cape Girardeau passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Fountainbleau Lodge. She was born Feb. 1, 1920, in Cape Girardeau to Leslie and Clara Griffin Penrose. She and James Dennis Penrose were married Feb. 18, 1950, at Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death and has been gone for over 30 years...

Alene Emma Penrose, 97, of Cape Girardeau passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Fountainbleau Lodge.

She was born Feb. 1, 1920, in Cape Girardeau to Leslie and Clara Griffin Penrose. She and James Dennis Penrose were married Feb. 18, 1950, at Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death and has been gone for over 30 years.

Alene worked in housekeeping at Saint Francis Medical Center for many years and prior to that worked at Rigdon Laundry seven years.

She was a very private person, except when it came to St. Louis Cardinals baseball. She was an avid fan, to say the least.

She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include five grandchildren, Dwayne (Amie) Kiehne of Jackson, Cheryl Kiehne of Garland, Texas, James Dennis (Kara) Penrose of Harrisonville, Missouri, Jennifer Penrose of Cape Girardeau and Melissa (Rudy) Sanchez of Princeton, Texas. She also is survived by nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, James A. and John W. Penrose; and a sister, Freda Alford.

Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bobby Manso officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society, 106 Farrar Drive, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.
