Alberta Lucille Riley Sides was born Sept. 16, 1925, to Walter Riley and Mary Farrar in Neely's Landing.
Alberta accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. Alberta graduated from John S. Cobb School in Cape Girardeau.
She was joined in holy matrimony to Lester Sides; three children were born into this union. Alberta retired from the Chateau Girardeau after many years of service. In her leisure she enjoyed cooking, reading, playing dominoes, word search puzzles, looking out the window and growing African violets.
On Oct. 13, 2009, Alberta Riley Sides departed this life into the waiting arms of her Heavenly Father. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mary Riley; her brother, Charlie Riley; and her sister, Rhoda Riley.
She leaves to cherish her memory her three daughters, Sandra Sides of St. Louis, Marilyn Simms and Vickie Robinson of Milwaukee; four grandchildren, Charmond Peterson and Donald Simms of Milwaukee and Darrell and Jerome Sides of St. Louis; seven great-grandchildren, Charles Peterson, Terrence Peterson, Erik Hunt, Erin Hunt, Evonna Hunt and Donavan Hunt all of Milwaukee, and Samantha Sides of St. Louis.
Two nieces, Brenda Newbern and Mary Brathwaite; three special grandchildren, Patrick Peterson, Robert Lowe and Sheena Walker-Gardner of Milwaukee; and a host of loving family and friends.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Johnny Thomas officiating
Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.
