Alberta Mae Heimbaugh, 89, went to her eternal heavenly home Friday, June 1, 2012. Alberta passed away at her home of more than 60 years. She was the ninth child of Louis J. and Elizabeth Mueller Riske, born May 5, 1923, at Elmont, Mo. She had eight sisters and two brothers...

Alberta Mae Heimbaugh, 89, went to her eternal heavenly home Friday, June 1, 2012. Alberta passed away at her home of more than 60 years.

She was the ninth child of Louis J. and Elizabeth Mueller Riske, born May 5, 1923, at Elmont, Mo. She had eight sisters and two brothers.

Alberta married John R. Heimbaugh on Dec. 22, 1951, in Cape Girardeau at his parents' home. John died June 24, 1975.

Alberta was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a past member of the Walter League in St. Louis; the Cape Girardeau Historical Society; the Cape Girardeau Painters Union Auxiliary; PTA; and the Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, Scott County Cooks Association.

Alberta was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 63 for more than 50 years. She was awarded by Unit 63 with a lifetime membership. She was past president of Unit 63 and also held other offices at the local and district levels. For several summers she donated her time when Unit 63 operated the Capaha Park concession stand at the baseball field. She also was a Field Service Volunteer at the Missouri Veterans Home with at least 200 hours.

Alberta worked 32 years full time and as a substitute in the Cape Girardeau Public School cafeterias. She also worked as a caregiver for 12 years.

Loving survivors include her daughter Rita A. (Brad) Weber of Perryville, Mo.; a son, Walter J. Heimbaugh of Leavenworth County, Kan.; a daughter-in-law; one granddaughter; two sisters, Leona Hoehne of Cape Girardeau and Nadine Riske of Sullivan, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Virginia Heimbaugh Schwab of Sun City, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and five sisters.

Alberta had a special friend, Elmer Bartels, who preceded her in death in 2001. The Junior Bartels family has continued with this very special friendship through the years.

In the past 16 months, Southeast Hospice has provided Mother with care, and we wish to thank this loving group. A special thank you to Lori, Sharon and Marie for your care.

Visitation was Sunday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. Nathan Burgell officiating.

Burial will follow at Cape Girardeau County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or Southeast Hospice.
