WHITEWATER -- Albert L. Rodgers, 79, of Whitewater died Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Nov. 18, 1917, at New Madrid, son of Albert and Maude Rochelle Rodgers. He and Carole Gentry were married June 9, 1967.

Rodgers was a riverboat captain many years with the former Mid America Transportation Co. of East St. Louis, Ill.

He attended First Baptist Church at Delta. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 417 and Eastern Star 174 at Whitewater, and Scottish Rite. He was a past worshipful master and past worthy patron. He had been a Boy Scout leader and former member of an Optimist Club in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael Rodgers of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Jane Nicholas of Jackson, Terry Winchester of Whitewater; a stepdaughter, Dixie Oxworth of Conway, Ark.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. today. Masonic service will be at 7.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Glen Golden officiating. Burial will be in Proffer Cemetery at Crump.
