PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Albert Glyn "Al" Oliver, 59, of Perryville died Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at Perry County Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 4, 1951, in Sikeston, Mo., son of the late James Fowler and Lilly Lee (Lathum) Oliver. He and LaDonna Weibrecht were married June 29, 1973.
Oliver worked at Procter & Gamble 27 years, from 1969 to 1997. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Ward 1 city alderman since April 2008, president of Perryville Country Club 15 years and a member of Chamber of Commerce.
He loved his family very much and loved playing with his grandchildren. He loved doing woodwork, especially for others. He really enjoyed helping his grandson Garrett build his catapult and trebuchet for school. Loved helping and doing things for others but never wanted anything but a mere thank you. (Always bladed driveways when we had a lot of snow and always refused any pay for doing it.) He was a firm believer in neighbors helping neighbors, friends helping friends. He loved trout fishing at Montauk.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and a son, Angela (Tim) Brewer of Perryville, Jeffrey (Kim) Oliver of Lawton, Okla., Sandra (JoJo) Stuart of Perryville; two brothers, Alfred Oliver of Festus, Manuel Oliver of Millersville; three sisters, Marie Abernathy of Morley, Mo., Wilma Finn of St. Louis, Bonnie Brenning of Troy, Mo.; and eight grandchildren Garrett, Miranda and Conner Brewer; Mason, Madyson and Meygan Oliver; and Samuel and Adrian Stuart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Seth and Avery Oliver; and two sisters, Betty Abernathy and Ann Miller.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. Friday at Young and Sons Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Thomas Handrick officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran School Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.
