CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Albert August Christian Maevers, 92, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Dec. 23, 1996, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born March 14, 1904, son of Henry and Bertha Wettengel Maevers of Burfordville. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit. He attended Burfordville grade school, Tilsit Immanuel Lutheran School and College High School in Cape Girardeau.
He married Hilda Helene Zeller on April 26, 1930, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church Parsonage. She survives.
They moved to Cape Girardeau in 1931, where he began working with Polack Brothers Plumbing and Heating before taking a job as a power maintenance foreman at Marquette Cement Manufacturing Co. He stayed at that job for 35 years until his retirement in 1966. He also worked part time for Riverside Lumber Co.
He was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a member of the Marquette Foreman's Club.
He is survived by one son, James Lee Maevers of Whitewater; one daughter, Carolyn Lusk of Fayette; one sister, Anita Sievers of Jackson; five grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
