Albert Lee Carter departed this life Friday, Jan. 27, 2023, at his home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born April 6, 1950, in Diehlstadt, Missouri, to Herman McElmurry and Robelian "Sis" Carter.
Albert was a 1969 graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School, where he was a member of the basketball team. Playing and watching sports were his passions. He played slow-pitch softball for the Cape Girardeau City League. Albert faithfully watched his beloved St. Louis Cardinals baseball team any chance he could. He loved to sit on the front porch to "people watch." Taking care of his lawn was one of his favorite things to do. He enjoyed reading the newspaper daily while having a Pepsi.
Albert was the father of seven children, Kimberley (Michael) Blissett, Debra Carter, Cassandra (Fred) Harris, Danielle (Frank) Staple, Alesha Carter, Calandra Jones and James Carter. He was the proud grandfather of 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his stepmother, Leanna McElmurry; and eight siblings, Mary Ann (Bobby) Mitchell, Marilyn Newbern, Marcia (Jimmy) Carter, Denise Evans, Marlena (Ross) Conner, Patricia (Richard) Wilson, Helen (Larry) Pearson and Michael McElmurry.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Henry James Williams and Herman Thomas McElmurry.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Lorimier City Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
