Alan Wayne Jones, 68, of Jackson passed away Sunday, Dec. 25, 2022, at his home.
He was born Sept. 16, 1954, in Cape Girardeau, son of Alan Kenneth "Rack" and Irene Wunderlich Jones.
Wayne was a 1972 graduate of Jackson High School. During high school, he worked for Straightway Farm Service. After graduation, he began his 30-year career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., retiring in 2002. Upon retirement, Wayne was granted the much-earned time to enjoy his passion and talents for fishing, hunting, golfing and sitting on the front porch visiting with his friends.
He was a member of Jackson Elks for 38 years, and a former member of Bass Busters. He enjoyed doughnut day at Bebo's on Fridays. Wayne had a huge heart with a "never met a stranger" outgoing personality, who was loved by all who had the opportunity to meet and know him. He will be missed by many.
Loving survivors include four sisters, Carol (Jerry) Curtis of Perryville, Missouri, Loeta (the late Robert) Hahs of Oak Ridge, Leila Jones of Boaz, Alabama, and Laura (Korky) Bryant of Chaffee, Missouri; and his longtime companion and best friend, Linda Cook of Jackson.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, and many loyal and faithful friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Dec, 30, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
Funeral will follow at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at the funeral home, with Pastor Elijah Allen officiating. Interment will follow in New Salem Cemetery near Daisy.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to SEMO Pets, formerly Humane Society of Southeast Missouri, 2536 Boutin Drive, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.
