JACKSON -- Alvin G. "Al" Schlegel, 87, of Jackson died Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born May 31, 1911, at Dutchtown, son of Henry A. and Meyhulda Geiser Schlegel.
Schlegel worked at International Shoe Co. from 1934-58, and then moved to a farm north of Jackson and raised breeding cattle.
He was a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ and its Men's Club, and of the Polled Hereford Association.
Survivors include a daughter, Edna Grant of Jackson; four brothers, Richard Schlegel of Waterloo, Ill., Albert Schlegel of Cape Girardeau, Bill Schlegel of Kelso, Melvin Schlegel of Coshocton, Ohio; three sisters, Erna Duckworth of Omaha, Neb., Marie Nagel of Jackson, Mildred Brugger of St. Charles; two granddaughters; and three great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by three wives, two sisters, and a brother.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
