The July 21, 1997, edition of the Southeast Missourian contained a cover story regarding curfews in Cape Girardeau and Jackson. Accompanying the story was a photograph of four young men. An effort was made by the photographer to obscure the identities of the four individuals in the photo. However, parents of the individuals in the photo and other readers were able to identify them. They are Robert Sterling, Tony Venkowich, Lionel Dixon and Brandon Westfall.
This photograph was taken at 9:30 p.m. on July 18, 1997. These young men were not in violation of any curfew. These individuals are honest and upstanding citizens of Cape Girardeau as shown by their involvement in many civic and religious organizations as well as the respect that they and their families have in our community.
The Southeast Missourian apologizes to each of these individuals and their families for any embarrassment that our oversight may have caused.
