The Yes for Gaming Committee has announced its plans for a kickoff rally at 3:30 p.m. Friday on the site of the proposed facility. Supporters are invited to attend the rally, according to a news release issued by the committee. The committee is encouraging voters to vote yes on the casino question on the Nov. 2 ballot.
"There has been a groundswell of local support for this project," said committee spokesman Trent Summers. "For a couple of weeks now, people in Cape Girardeau have been asking how they can sign up or get involved in bringing this casino project to our community. This event is a springboard to gather our supporters and launch our efforts spreading the facts about the unquestionable positive benefits this project will bring to our community."
On Monday, the Missouri Gaming Commission gave Cape Girardeau residents the opportunity to discuss both sides of the issue. The Yes for Gaming Committee is looking to build on the momentum at the kickoff event and begin gathering as many people as possible to speak to the Missouri Gaming Commission showing Cape Girardeau's support for this project, the release said.
The rally will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the site of the old shoe factory downtown (Main Street at Mason Street) with comments from local supporters and community leaders. The committee will also unveil the campaign's official logo, website and Facebook page, all designed to help inform residents about the project and organize support for a decisive win in the November election.
