A special edition of the Southeast Missourian is being sold this morning on street corners in Cape Girardeau and Scott City in an effort to raise money to fight illiteracy.

Volunteers are hawking papers in the second annual YELL for Newspapers. Money raised will fund the Southeast Missourian's Newspapers In Education program for area schools and also the Area Wide United Way's special literacy programs.

A special edition of the Cash-Book Journal will be sold Wednesday morning in Jackson.

In addition to the Tuesday Southeast Missourian, those who purchase newspapers on street corners will receive a lot more.

A 32-page section has been added to the paper, with stories explaining the NIE program, the Area Wide United Way and its member agencies and literacy efforts in the community. A number of money-saving coupons are included in that section along with advertising with tips on helping children and adults become better readers.
