MALDEN -- If there is one name country music fans associate with Malden, it's that of Tammy Wynette. And she's back again this Independence Day along with country music legend Loretta Lynn.
It will mark the 14th year that Wynette has celebrated the Fourth of July in Malden. And she always brings a special guest. Such notable performers as George Jones, John Conlee, Jerry Reed and Mel Tillis have accompanied Wynette to the theme park bearing her name.
The concert will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Tammy Wynette Park in the Malden Industrial Park. Gates will open at 5 p.m. Admission is $5 in advance and $10 at the gate. Children under 12 get in free.
Also appearing at the festivities will be gospel music singers J.D. Sumner and the Stamps. The group is known for being background singers for Elvis Presley. Joining the Stamps will be Malden's own Full Circle, a gospel trio that has gained national acclaim with its latest release "Grand Opening."
The event, sponsored by the Malden Chamber of Commerce and Richardson-Wynette Motors, will be reminiscent of an old-fashioned July 4 get-together. Those attending should bring lawn chairs or blankets. Coolers, tape recorders and VCR cameras are not allowed. After the concert will be a fireworks display.
