Professional wrestling has had its highs and lows at the Show Me Center, from the 1988 sellout starring Andre the Giant and Hulk Hogan to the lean years between 1993 and 1996, when no wrestlers appeared.
Wrestling returns Wednesday when the World Wrestling Federation's Live Tour comes to the Show Me Center for a series of matches beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The show will include WWF stars Owen Hart, Hunter Hearst-Helmsley, Rocky Maivia, Ken Shamrock, the Headbangers, Goldust, Dude Love, Faarooq and Mark Mero.
One of the main events will be an intercontinental title match between champion Rocky Maivia and Ken Shamrock.
A tag team title match will follow between champions Road Dog & B.A. Billy Gunn and the Headbangers.
Show Me Center bookings for wrestling have dropped off since the late 1980s, the heyday of wrestling popularity.
Wrestling was one of the first events booked after the Show Me Center opened in 1987. The 18 wrestling shows in the center's history have averaged about 3,200 fans at the center.
Some 7,692 people bought tickets to see Andre the Giant and Hulk Hogan. Show Me Center Director David Ross said the only bigger ticket sale in Show Me Center history was President Ronald Reagan visit in 1988. That event had an attendance of 7,718 people.
Star wrestlers who have appeared at the Show Me Center over the years include the Ultimate Warrior, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, the "Macho Man" Randy Savage, and Brett "Hit Man" Hart. Miss Elizabeth also appeared here.
