Because the fatality occurred inside the city limits, it will not be included in the Labor Day holiday traffic fatality count, the patrol said.

A 19-year-old Cape Girardeau County man was listed in critical condition Saturday following a one-vehicle accident that was discovered at 4:15 a.m., Saturday on Route FF, three miles west of Fruitland.

The highway patrol said a four-wheel-drive GMC "Jimmie" driven by David Maintz of Jackson ran off the right side of the road, down a steep enbamkment and overturned, coming to rest on its wheels.

The patrol said Maintz was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled over.

He was taken to the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
