A World Food Day dinner to benefit two relief agencies is planned for Tuesday on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University.

The dinner, sponsored by the Association of Campus Ministries and the university's student development office, will begin at 6 p.m. in the south cafeteria of the University Center.

Monetary donations received for the dinner will benefit the FISH food pantry, a local Christian relief program, and the Bread For The World international relief agency. The event will serve as a kickoff for the annual CROP Walk slated for Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. in Capaha Park.

The CROP Walk is a 10-kilometer walk to raise money for Christian relief agencies. Twenty-five percent of the proceeds will go to FISH, and 75 percent to domestic and international relief efforts, event organizers said.

Last year close to 100 people participated in the walk, raising more than $2,000.

The World Food Day dinner will consist of a vegetarian bean soup and homemade bread. The guest speaker will be Joe Trower of the Church World Service/CROP organization. Trower is director of the organization's regional office in Jefferson City.

Trower will address the issues surrounding domestic hunger and hunger in South America and East Africa.
