CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The importance of arts education in various cultures will be the focus of a workshop Thursday at Southeast Missouri State University.

"Spanning Cultures through Arts Education" will bring together the work of more than 300 people from 12 countries speaking seven different languages. It is one of five such events being offered in Missouri.

The workshop will be held in the University Center Missouriana room from 4 to 6:30 p.m. It is sponsored by the Columbia College Center for Community and Cultural Studies and is being hosted by the university and the Southeast Missouri Council on the Arts.

The workshop is designed to help public school teachers and other educators, artists, students, arts advocates and community leaders. Speaking will be Dr. Patrick Overton, director of the Columbia College Center for Community and Cultural Studies; and Charles Walden, president of the Missouri State Old Time Fiddlers Association.
