How to help youngsters -- and instructors -- make the most out of children's fitness activities will be the topic for a special workshop Saturday, May 25.
Presented by Southeast Missouri Hospital's Fitness and Wellness Center, the "Workshop for Kid Fitness Instructors" is designed for aerobic instructors, physical education teachers, recreation therapists, day care staff, teachers and others who work with children ages 3 to 12.
The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Main Street Fitness Center, 410 West Main in Jackson. Presenters are Debbie Leoni, a recreational therapist and coordinator of Southeast's Fitness and Wellness Center, and Scott Givens, wellness specialist at the hospital.
Workshop topics will include safety and liability issues for children; health concerns and basic first aid; discipline of children; developmental levels of children; and structure of a workout. There will also be a live demonstration of a kids' fitness class.
Registration fee is $65 per person in advance or $75 at the door and $45 for full-time students. To learn more about the workshop, call the Fitness and Wellness Center at 334-9355.
