Success By 6, University Outreach and Extension and Family Resource Center will offer the Building Strong Families Series to area families giving them a chance to discover their own strengths and learn new skills to build on. A series of Building Strong Families sessions will be offered at the Cape Area Family Resource Center.
"Our program is built on the philosophy that every family has strengths to build on," said Mary Gosche, human development specialist. "During their first session, participants will explore their own family's strengths. They will then attend skill-building sessions to learn how to help their families become even stronger."
Individuals in attendance will learn by participating in hands-on activities. Because they are the experts on their own families, participants will be encouraged to share their experiences.
Success By 6, a United Way initiative, is sponsored by a Bank of America and a United Way grant.
The first session, Family Strengths, will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Family Resource Center, 1202 S. Sprigg.
Future session topics will be selected by the group meeting on Sept. 8. Topics include communicating, managing stress, positive discipline, balancing responsibilities, consumer beware, healthy house, money matters, food and fitness and child self-care. Other scheduled session dates are Sept. 15, 29, and Oct. 6.
Registration is requested. The registration deadline for child care is Sept. 3. Call the Area Wide United Way at 334-9634 to register. There is no cost to attend.
