For the second time in three years, a Cape Girardeau woman has received Eagle Forum's Missouri Full-time Homemaker of the Year award.
Rita Kuntz, 2309 Kent Drive, received the 1992 award at Eagle Forum's Eagle Council XXI, the organization's annual leadership training conference for "the future of the family."
In 1990, LaDonna Juden of Cape Girardeau won the award. Eagle Forum is a national, non-partisan, pro-family organization that lobbies Congress on family issues.
Kuntz also received Eagle Forum's 1992 "Eagle Award," for her "service to God, country and family."
Julia Kridelbaugh of Cape Girardeau, who received the Eagle Award in 1989, nominated Kuntz for this year's award. She and Kuntz attended the conference, held Sept. 25-27 at the Capitol Hilton in Washington, D.C.
Speakers at the conference included former Education Secretary William Bennett, editorialist Cal Thomas and J. Patrick Rooney, chairman of the Golden Rule Insurance Co.
Kridelbaugh said Kuntz is an appropriate pick for both state awards.
"Mrs. Kuntz is very deserving of both the Homemaker and the Eagle Award as a devoted wife and mother and also for the dedicated work to better her community as well as her country," she said.
Mary Potter Summa was the National Full-time Homemaker Award winner. Summa is a lawyer and a former appointee to the Legal Counsel of the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee on the Separation of Powers.
In 1989 she resigned to have children, but has remained an active volunteer. In 1988, she drafted part of the "family values" section in the Republican National Platform, and in 1992 she played a crucial role as chairman of the Republican National Convention's subcommittee on Individual Rights, Good Homes, and Safe Streets.
