Mrs. L is a country girl who misses the family farm. Until very recently she lived with relatives on a farm that clung to the lifestyle of the early 1900s. She was happy there.

She has had problems adjusting to life without close family ties, and opoor health has made that adustment even worse because she had to leave familiar surroundings to be near medical technology.

Mrs. L likes to crochet and piece quilts by hand. This Christmas she would like a bedside table and small lamp and crochet thread size 30 so she can continue to enjoy her hobbies. She also would like a telephone with large, lighted numbers, twin-size bed linens, and some bath towels.

She said a small, easy-to-use microwave would help with her meals, and grocery gift certificates for her and cat food for her pet would also be appreciated.

Christmas of the Elderly provides people with special requests that many people take for granted. Food, taxi coupons, toiletries, simple paper products and money for medications are just a few of the donations that would make an elderly person's entire year easier.

The program, in its 12th year, is co-sponsored by the Cape Girardeau County Health Department and the Southeast Missourian.

Gifts may be delivered to the Southeast Missourian or the Cape Girardeau County Health Center through Dec. 13.

Cash contributions, taxi coupons, paper products and grocery store gift certificates arte always needed. They help elderly people all year long.

Contributions may be mailed to Christmas for the Elderly, P.O. Box 699, Cape Girardeau, Mo., 63702-0699.
