CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. -- A local woman was arrested over the weekend after allegedly forcing entry into a man's home and dousing him and his property with gasoline in an attempt to set both on fire, the Daily Dunklin Democrat reported. According to the Caruthersville Police Department, at around 8:56 p.m. Sunday, 29-year-old LaShonda Nichols allegedly kicked in the bottom of a screen door at the home of Darryl Jarvies, 47. Jarvies told police that after Nichols barged into the home, she began pouring gasoline inside the dwelling and on him, while attempting to light the gas on fire. Investigators are calling the incident a domestic assault. According to the Pemiscot County prosecuting attorney's office, Nichols is being charged with first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action and first-degree attempted arson. A spokesman for the office said Nichols is expected to appear in court this week. She is incarcerated at the Pemiscot County Justice Center.
