Two area high school students have been selected to attend the Missouri Girls State conference this summer.

Sally Wibbenmeyer, of Friedheim, and Tara Payne, of Cape Girardeau, will attend the conference June 20-26, at William Woods College in Fulton.

Wibbenmeyer is the daughter of Michael and Cynthia Wibbenmeyer. She is a Junior at Oak Ridge High, where she is a member of the National Honor Society, FHA, Science Club, volleyball and cheerleading, Girl Scouts, pep and concert bands, student council and the pep club.

She is the secretary of the junior class at her high school, president of the Science Club, president of the National Honor Society, and has received several achievement awards throughout her high school career.

Payne is the daughter of Mike and Helen Payne. She is a junior at Notre Dame High School, where she is a member of the volleyball team, pep club and a Junior member of the American Legion.

She has been selected as a member of the All-District volleyball team, is on the "B" honor roll, and has participated in local Youth Government Day activities.

The purpose of Missouri Girls State is to promote constructive attitudes toward government. It provides training in the functional aspects of citizenship.

About 600 girls from throughout the state will participate in this 52nd session of Girls State.
