WILLIAMSVILLE, Mo. -- A Williamsville woman was being held Thursday at the Wayne County Jail, charged with shooting her husband in the abdomen Wednesday morning during a domestic dispute. Rita Pollack, 43, is charged with first-degree domestic assault. Charles Pollack was taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. His condition was stable Wednesday, according to officials, but his status Thursday morning was not known.

"We received a call from an employee at the Corner Quick in Williamsville, that Rita Pollack had shot her husband," said Wayne County Sheriff Phillip Burton.

The incident occurred shortly before 11:30 a.m.

According to the probable-cause statement, Rita Pollack told responding officers she was trying to climb out a window to get away from her husband when he pushed her out the window.

"She stated Charles came outside and she got her gun from her purse and told him if he did not stop, she would shoot him," according to the document. "Rita stated Charles started taunting her by saying, 'Go ahead and shoot me, you won't do it.'"

Rita Pollack allegedly fired one shot, with the gun jamming, and then a second shot that wounded Charles Pollack in the stomach while he stood about 30 feet from her.
