WASHINGTON -- A Republican committee chairman said Sunday the Bush administration probably will end up revealing information about its energy meetings, amid reports of more contacts with Enron and power companies.
"I suspect ... the president and the vice president are going to disclose more and more of this information simply as a political matter," Rep. Billy Tauzin, R-La., chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, said on NBC's "Meet the Press."
Tauzin and another Republican, Jim Greenwood of Pennsylvania, said they were sympathetic to Vice President Dick Cheney's view that his task force, which formulated the administration's energy policy last spring, is entitled to keep its contacts confidential.
The president and vice president are protecting "the presidency itself," making sure that "Congress is not being unconstitutional in demanding certain documents," Greenwood said.
