Adam LeGrand wants to be a firefighter when he grows up.

The first grader at Clippard Elementary School says he is already practicing for the job. He slides down "fire poles" at the Arena Park playground.

Adam knows there's plenty to do as a fireman.

"We get in a red truck and we have axes and hoses and all kinds of stuff like masks and air tanks to save the people that are in the houses that are on fire," he said.

Adam said firefighters have to go through special training. "We would have to go to the fire station and learn a lot of stuff."

If he were a firefighter, Adam said, he would drive the truck, climb the fire truck ladder and spray water on burning buildings.

"If the hose runs out, there is a special tank that is full of water," he said.

Adam said firefighters have to be brave.

He likes the red fire trucks best, but "kind of likes" the yellow ones too.

Adam said firefighters do other things besides fight fires. "People who don't have fires can call and get firefighters to come save their dog or cat that is stuck up in a tree."
