CHARLESTON, Mo. — A Saturday fight between two on-duty Charleston police officers at a local business is under investigation.

Charleston Department of Public Safety Chief Robert Hearnes said the department received a call on Saturday morning of a fight in progress at a local business. It was later learned the two people fighting were on-duty Charleston DPS police officers.

"I am sorry that the citizens of Charleston had to witness this type of conduct," Hearnes said in a news release. "Police officers are held to a higher standard."

The incident is under investigation, and Hearnes said he couldn't comment further until the investigation is complete.

Both officers were placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
