BANDIT COLE YOUNGER TALKS OF HIS CAREER

There was almost a full house to listen to Cole Younger, the noted bandit and former member of the James-Younger Gang, at the opera house last night. It was pathetic to hear him tell how force of circumstances caused him to have live the life of an outlaw for fourteen years, and then of the more than two years in prison at Stillwater, Minn.

The thing he tried to impress upon his hearers more than anything else was that men should walk with God, and that vengeance is not for man.

Captain Younger is nearly 70 years of age, but he intends to make use of his few remaining years doing what he can for mankind, in order to atone for what he did before entering prison...

Marble Hill, Jan. 22 -- Will Mayfield College, th eonly Baptist denominational school in Southeast Missouri, was closed temporarily today by order of the executive committee of the board of trustees, but will reopen May 27. The closing was announced in a formal statement by the committee after it had been in a session with President J.W. Jeffries.

Parade marks opening of Blanchard school

A parade and reception were held Tuesday morning to mark the changeover of Barbara Blanchard Elementary School from "a hillside, an idea and a budget" to an operating elementary school.

Superintendent Dr. Dan Steska called the school's opening a "climactic event" that represented Cape Girardeau's first new public school since 1967, when the vocational-technical school was built. Clippard Elementary School, built in 1965, was the last elementary school opened in the district.
