CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The newly organized Safe House for Women, Inc. will sponsor a workshop concerning domestic vilence Feb. 16.
The workshop, entitled "Sometimes You Wish There Was No Place Like Home," will be held in the Harrison Room at Southeast Missouri Hospital from 9-11:30 a.m. An earlier scheduled workshop was canceled due to bad weather.
Cozette Morrow White, an expert in the field of domestic vilence, will conduct the workshop. White is executive director of the Rape and Abuse Crisis Service of Jefferson City and serves on the board of directors of the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic Vilence.
According to Pat Strom, president of Safe House for Women, Inc., the workshop is one of the first efforts of the board to educate the community about domestic violence.
The workshop is open to the public. White will also address the Safe House board of directors in the afternoon.
In addition to Strom, officers of the organization include Steve Strong, vice president; Paula Huggins, treasurer; and R. Charles Grant, secretary.
Directors of the Safe House are preparing for the opening of a shelter by mid-year.
