A water main leak that closed sections of Broadway and Frederick Street in Cape Girardeau has been repaired.
The city's water division reported that workers had repaired the leak and were reopening sections of streets that had closed due to the leak just after 4 p.m.
Closed street sections included the eastbound lane of Broadway from Sprigg Street to Frederick Street and Frederick Street between Themis Street and Broadway, according to city water system manager Kevin Priester.
Priester said pipes in some homes could potentially burst when temperatures are in the single digits or teens.
"If it's this cold and stays this cold, people may want to open the cabinet doors under the sink," Priester said. "That lets the heat out under the room and can help keep the pipes from freezing."
