Wesley Lowery, who recently joined The Washington Post as a political correspondent, will present this year's Michael Davis Lecture at noon Feb. 19 in the Rose Theatre of the Grauel Language Arts Building at Southeast Missouri State University, a university news release said.
The event is free and open to the public.
The Michael Davis Lecture recognizes the contributions of African-Americans in the media. The event also honors the late Michael Davis, a mass communications student at Southeast who died as a result of a hazing incident. He was a journalism student in the then Department of Mass Communication at Southeast at the time of his death, the release said. In 1997, the department held the first Michael Davis Lecture to honor his memory as part of the university's Black History Month activities, the release said.
At The Washington Post, Lowery will contribute to "The Fix" and "Post Politics." He previously reported for The Boston Globe, where he covered stories such as the Boston Marathon bombing, the Aaron Hernandez arrest and the 2013 Boston mayoral race, the release said.
