Police continue to search for two men believed to have been involved in a shooting incident that occurred early Wednesday evening, police spokesman Cpl. Jason Selzer said Thursday.

Officers responded to the area of Sprigg and Maple streets around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday because of a report of shots fired.

They recognized two suspects fleeing the scene and gave chase; however, fearing for the safety of other drivers on the road, the officers dropped the pursuit when the other driver became too reckless as the car crossed the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge into Illinois.

No injuries were reported, but witnesses confirmed more than one shot was fired, though the exact amount of times the gun was discharged wasn't known.

Warrants were issued originally Thursday for two men police believed were involved. One of them, Keiven S. Cole Jr., 22, 2822 Lear St., was not in custody as of Thursday night, Selzer said. Cole was charged with resisting arrest, speeding and hindering prosecution. Bond was set at $50,000.

However, police realized the other warrant was for the wrong man when he spoke to authorities Thursday. Police have another suspect but have not yet released a name. The department plans to reinterview witnesses.
