A local company has made walking for fitness a part of its corporate ambitions. Workforce Employment Solutions, 2520 William St., is a staffing firm employing 30 staffing specialists in Missouri, Illinois, Kansas and Texas. They call their fitness effort "The Walk to Seattle," which represents a 3,100-mile goal. The name is based on the general width, in miles, of the United States from the east coast to the site of the company's next corporate meeting in Seattle. Thirty-one members added up their walking miles to reach the goal. The company's president, Marlene Brockmiller, said, "Since we started the Walk to Seattle program, we have had several people who have lost weight [goals they see as crucial before they can begin to dream of other things] and one person in our corporate office who quit smoking."
