Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has completed its pledge of $6,000 to the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Department for use in local economic development efforts.
Terry Godwin, manager of the Cape Girardeau Wal-Mart, recently presented a check for $2,000 to the chamber. The check represented the third and final payment of a three-year, $6,000 pledge.
"Wal-Mart Stores is proud to make this contribution as a commitment to helping improve the economy of the Cape Girardeau area by promoting job creation," said David Glass, president and chief executive officer of the discount retail firm headquartered in Bentonville, Ark.
Wal-Mart Stores has allocated over $1 million in economic development funding to attract new industry to its trade territory and encourage visiting industries and business in Wal-Mart communities to expand their operations.
