The deadline is today for anyone who wants to register to vote in time to participate in the Aug. 3 primary elections.
The deadline is for people who have never registered, have recently moved to Missouri or have moved to a new county, said Joey Keys, elections director for Cape Girardeau County. People who are already registered to vote but who have moved to a new residence within the same county can file a change of address as late as election day, he said.
The Cape Girardeau County clerk's office will be open until 5 p.m. today at the County Administration Building, 1 Barton Square in Jackson and at the Courthouse Annex, 44 N. Lorimier St. in Cape Girardeau. Voter registration cards may also be mailed to the clerk's office but must be postmarked by 5 p.m. today.
Voter registration cards are available at county clerk's offices, at driver's license bureau offices or at state social service agency offices. Registration cards are also available at most public libraries.
In August, voters will select candidates for the Democratic, Republican, Libertarian and Constitution parties. Voters do not declare party affiliation on their registration cards.
