The Salvation Army is gearing up for its annual Thanksgiving dinner, but with the strain put on the organization by the flood and with the construction of its new building, it is having some difficulty gathering supplies and volunteers.
Capt. Elmer Trapp said the annual dinner is in fact a community event where volunteers prepare and serve dinners, as well as deliver them to those who are unable to get out.
The Salvation Army needs not only volunteers, but also turkeys, hams, candied yams, green beans, corn, cranberry sauce and instant potatoes.
Donations can be brought to the Salvation Army building at 701 Good Hope; donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 802, Cape Girardeau, 63701.
