A group of Southeast Missouri State University student volunteers and their mentor Melvin Adams, the Southeast coordinator for student involvement ,met with Paul Nenninger, a local volunteer, and Bob Walsh, a Lowe's employee, to assist seniors with the installation of safety devices in their residences.
Safety devices installed included smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and safety strips to aid in traction on stairs. The project was made possible by a donation of materials by Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse combined with a cash donation from the Community Caring Council. Benefitting from the project were 46 senior citizens in the Cape Girardeau area.
Volunteers were Adam Durall, Justin Root, Steve Shawhan, Courtney Lindberg, Sara Politowicz, Allyson Whalen, Katie Goltschman, Jessica Niles, Kristin Moore, Melissa Smith, Deanna Heuring and David Fitzpatrick.
