The Girl Scouts of Otahki Council held their annual meeting and volunteer appreciation program on April 26. Board of director and nominating committee members were elected and installed. Jean Bollinger of Cape Girardeau was re-elected as president of the board of directors. Other officers re-elected included Mike Shivelbine and Terri Tomlin, vice presidents; Loretta Moeckel, secretary; and Glen May, treasurer. Members at large elected include Mary Jo Pfefferkorn, Evelyn Rehagen, Pat Kaempfer, Jeanie Allgood, Allen Moss and Lisa Perry. Nominating committee members elected were Mary Dinkins, Mary Jo Pfefferkorn and Gretel Nelson.
All volunteers were honored for their service at the Girl Scout volunteer program and luncheon. Several special awards were also presented. Janet Wagganer of Fredericktown was awarded the Thanks II Badge, the highest honor for an adult in Girl Scouting.
The Thanks Badge for outstanding service that benefits the entire Girl Scout organization was presented to Betty Brooks of Jackson.
Renard of Cape Girardeau and Nelson of Dongola, Ill., received the Honor Pin, presented to those who demonstrate outstanding service toward meeting the council's goals and objectives. Volunteers who were presented the Appreciation Pin for outstanding service included Sandy Hastings of Jackson, Karen Dodds of Cape, Melissa Stepp of Bell City, Mo., Noni Cowell, Marble Hill, Mo., and Cathy Kirt and Cindi Eidson of Jonesboro, Ill.
The Juliette Low Award for highest percent of girl members in relation to the girl population was presented to Cape Service Unit serving one out of every two girls in their jurisdiction. The award for exceeding membership goals went to Hawthorne and Tywappity Service Units. Perryville Service Unit received the Leona Bunch Award for the highest retention of girls and adults. The Hawthorne, Perryville and Tsalagi Service Units all received the Dolly Aubuchon Award for outstanding service unit performance.
