Tenor Christopher Goeke, a member of the faculty at Southeast Missouri State University, will present a voice recital today as part of the music department's faculty music series.
The recital will be held at Old St. Vincent's Church, beginning at 3 p.m.
Goeke taught at Grinnell College in Iowa and at the University of Iowa before joining the faculty at Southeast as an instructor of voice and opera. He has appeared as a soloist in opera and concert throughout the country.
The recital will feature a variety of styles and languages including Elizabethan love songs, German Leider, and French Chansons. "The Seven Sonnets of Michelangelo," set to music by Benjamin Britten, will also be performed.
Works by Schumann, Roussel and Britten will be accompanied by John Shelton, pianist. Shelton teaches applied piano and music education courses at Southeast.
Works by Dowland, Jones and Rosseter will be accompanied by Mary Van Hoet-Miller, harpsichordist. She is the organist and music director at Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson.
Admission to the recital is free with a university I.D. card or a donation at the door.
