Twenty-six area high schools participated in the annual District Vocational Agriculture and Future Farmers of America contests held March 26-27.

The contests were sponsored by the Southeast Missouri State University agriculture department in cooperation with area agriculture producers, agri-businesses, the Missouri Department of Conservation, the Soil Conservation Service, and district vocational agriculture instructors.

Approximately 400 students from area high school, vocational agriculture education programs participated in the contests held March 26. Over 350 students were involved in the event March 27.

Plaques were presented to the first place teams by H. Weldon Macke, member of the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce Agri-business Committee. Area sweepstakes trophies were awarded by the District Farm Credit System and the Production Credit Association.

Advance soils, first place team; farm management, first place team; extemporaneous public speaking, Brandon Gregory, second place.

Cape Girardeau Central floriculture, second place team; nursery-landscape, first place team.

Kelly entomology, first place team; agricultural mechanics, second place team.

Oran creed speaking, Justin Jones, first place.

Perryville livestock, second place team; dairy cattle, second place team; forestry, first place team; public speaking, Margaret Rausch, second place.
