History professor Patrick Foley will deliver the second annual Friend-Bollinger Regional History Lecture on April 18 in Perryville, Mo., and April 19 in Cape Girardeau.
Foley of Tarrant County College in Fort Worth, Texas, will discuss "Missionaries Extraodinaire: The Vincentians of St. Mary's of the Barrens."
Foley is an expert on the history of the Congregation of the Mission, a Catholic order that established seminaries, churches and schools in the Missouri and Mississippi River valleys during the first half of the 19th century.
St. Mary's of the Barrens in Perryville and St. Vincent de Paul in Cape Girardeau are among the early institutions.
Both lectures will begin at 7:30 p.m. The Perryville lecture will be held in the theater of the Perryville Community Center. The Cape Girardeau presentation will be in the University Center Ballroom.
The lectures are free and open to the public.
