A Southeast Missouri organization that advocates for a ban on state executions is holding a candlelight vigil today for 47-year-old Martin Link, who is set to die Wednesday for the 1991 murder of Elissa Self.

The vigil, put on by the Interfaith South East Moratorium on Executions, will also be to honor the victim, Self, her family and Link's family. The event will start at 7 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau County Courthouse in Jackson.

Self, 11, disappeared while walking to her bus stop in January 1991. She was found dead four days later along the bank of the St. Francis River.

Gov. Jay Nixon denied clemency for Link on Monday. Link is set to die by lethal injection in Bonne Terre, Mo.
