Police Thursday were still investigating the cause of a five-car accident that left one person dead and three injured on Highway 25 three miles south of Delta, Mo.

Anna Sanders, 59, of Bloomfield, Mo., was killed in the accident. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Cape Girardeau County Coroner Mike Hurst.

At the time of the accident, about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, two cars were headed north and three headed south.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the crash apparently occurred when a southbound vehicle driven by Raymond Fluharty crossed the center line and struck a delivery van driven by Jeremy Hunter and a vehicle driven by George Carver.

Sanders was headed south behind Fluharty, and in the car behind her was driver Rocky Rogers.

Police said Carver, attempting to avoid Fluharty's car, lost control of his vehicle and traveled into the path of Sanders' and Rogers' vehicles.

The Cape Girardeau Fire Department was called in to help extricate some of the victims.

Fluharty, 39, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., was transported to St. Francis Medical Center, where he was treated and released. Carver, 26, of Jackson, Mo., was listed in good condition Thursday at Southeast Missouri Hospital, and Rogers, 40, of Greenville, Mo., was in good condition Thursday at St. Francis Medical Center.

The patrol's major crash team is investigating the accident, which closed the highway between Delta and Advance for about five hours.
