The Cape Girardeau Convention and Business Bureau will discuss naming a new vice chairman in the near future.
Juan Crites, a member of the CVB Advisory Board, submitted her resignation as vice chairman during the regular monthly meeting of the board Wednesday.
"I am still eager to serve on the board," said Crites in a letter to Bob Hoppmann, chairman of the board. "But due to the additional workload which has evolved from my appointment as director of admissions at Southeast Missouri State University, I would like to resign my position as vice chairman of the CVB."
Crites said there could be times when she would not be available in the event that the chairman would be absent.
The board also discussed an update on the search for a new CVB staff member to fill the vacancy created when Laurel Adkisson resigned. Hoppmann told the board he would contact Chamber of Commerce President Robert Hendrix early next week for an update on the search for a new CVB staff member.
The board heard a report from Jim Grebing of the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Board on the progress of planning for a sports and recreation complex. The board also tabled two $15,000 requests for funding by the River Heritage Mural Association and an Indian Pow Wow Trade Day Festival.
"These two requests hinged largely on our request for implementation of a contingency fund to be added to the current CVB budget," said Hoppmann. "The City Council turned down our contingency request."
Grebing told the board that he would be prepared to make a complete report to the City Council Nov. 16.
"We're are trying to merge two proposals concerning the Shawnee Park Sports Complex and a multiuse recreation building proposal, which result in a building to be constructed on what is referred to as Crowe's Park," said Grebing.
A subcommittee working on the plan is expected to have two more meetings before a final plan will be presented to the Park Board for approval, said Grebing.
"We're scheduled to appear before the council with our complete package on Nov. 16," he said.
