Traffic briefly slowed at about 4:30 p.m. on Highway 74 after the two-vehicle crash that ended with the van on its roof on the roadside near Mockingbird Lane, two miles east of Dutchtown. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol's preliminary crash report, the accident happened when the van crossed the centerline and struck a pickup driven by 70-year-old Lawrence R. Gilliland of Cape Girardeau. The van's driver, 66-year-old Robert E. Jones of Cape Girardeau, was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center with moderate injuries. Both men were wearing seat belts.
